IN exciting news Asanka Gurusinha has agreed to join us as a Development Coach for the Male program.
Asanka played for Sri Lanka primarily as a number 3 bat and played in 41test matches and 147 ODI’s scoring 9 centuries in total as well as picking up a few handy wickets with his medium pace. In earlier days he also used the gloves. In Hamilton New Zealand he scored a century in each innings.
He was famously a part of Sri Lanka’s successful World Cup winning side in 1996 helping wrest the game from Australia in the final with a fine 67 in a partnership of 125 with Aravinda De Silva.
Asanka knows Premier cricket well with playing stints at North Melbourne and Prahran and more recently coaching at Essendon and specialist coach at Kingston Hawthorn.
Asanka will focus on our younger players, aiming to enhance their skill set and assist their movement through Premier Cricket. He will develop their understanding of play strategies as well as skills. Asanka will also lead our Under 18 side through the Pathways Programme over summer, a role he successfully undertook at Essendon.
We look forward to Asanka’s knowledge and experience working with us.
