In the 11th over, the firsts found themselves in big trouble at 4 for 40 chasing 120. Van and Ishi needed to build a partnership and set about doing it, adding 31 over the next 5 overs to leave 50 to get off 5. IT needs to be said that Plenty Valley had bowled extremely well and there were no easy runs.
Ishi decided it was time to go against the captain, and hitting over and through the field took 22 off the over. Nav, who had anchored our fightback whilst slowly accumulating runs joined the party with 14 of her own off the next that let us to cruise to the win with 8 balls to spare.
It was truly memorable watching seeing such an exciting comeback with Ishi exploding to 54 n.o. off 29 and Van 36n.o. off 39. A matchwinning partnership of 84 off 50 balls.
Earlier we fought back from a strong start from the Plenty Valley who batted aggressively and put both bowlers and the field under pressure. A win that demonstrates the potential of the group.
In the second match against Melbourne we were not able to post enough runs to challenge Melbourne's efforts to reply. Ishy top scored again with 23, well supported by Sophie and Thivyaa.
Strong bowling by the team in both matches restricted their opposition and enabled us to post our first two wins after missing out in a couple of close results previously. They were both even performances across the girls with Emma Hart taking 3 wickets and Grace Barnes topscoring with 19 in the second.
The thirds travelled to Geelong finishing over the top of Plenty Valley in the first, helped substantially by Anuki batting through the innings and compiling 46 not out. It was a similar pattern in the second when we chased down 102 in the second last over. This time Evie Paternott batted though for 33 not out.
Five wins from 6 matches was an outstanding effort for the Club and now we look forward to turning our mind to the longer game.
