With the launch of a first-of-its kind green energy power station, Dandenong Cricket Club will generate thousands of dollars in annual savings and income, which we will use to give members the resources and coaching to help develop into elite players.
The power station is a collaboration between the club, Amber Electric, WattlePowr, Greater Dandenong City Council, and Cricket for Climate, a national organisation that supports cricketers at all levels to lead on climate solutions.
It adds a 25.94 kW solar PV system onto our existing system, 80 kWh of battery storage and ‘smart shift’ software to our current system and expect that it will reduce energy bills by about $8,500 over a full year, shared between us and the Dandenong Stingrays.
“This is such a fantastic initiative for both the clubs and community,” said
Dandenong Cricket Club President Michael Findlay. “It’s a valuable source of
revenue that lets us continue to build our programs. The fact it’s creating
more green energy and helping improve the reliability of the electricity system is
a huge bonus.”
"We are indebted to all the parties involved for the hard work they did over the last 9 months to bring this to fruition. I would like to especially thank the Cricket for Climate organisation and Joanne and Ellie for their vision, guidance, direction and persistance."
Founded by Australian Test Captain Pat Cummins, Cricket for Climate is a player-
led movement that creates tangible and collaborative action on energy,
sustainability, education and engagement projects. A powerful model for climate
action and advocacy, Cricket for Climate catalyse the entire cricket ecosystem –
governments, corporates, fans, players, other sports, and cricket bodies globally –
to take action on climate and ensure we can keep playing cricket, forever.
