Day 2 saw the induction of 5 new life members of Cricket Victoria. They were Sarah Edwards, Paul Jackson, Brad Hodge, Mel Jones, Clea Smith, David Hussey and Cameron White. (See https://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/news/victorian-cricket-team/seven-new-life-members-inducted-at-cricket-victoria/).
Cameron was awarded life membership for his services as a player and leader of Victorian Cricket for over 2 decades. He was first selected for Victoria as a 17 year old following a promising start at Dandenong as a batsman/leg spinner and quickly established his place in the team.
So much so that at 20 years of age, he became Victoria's youngest ever Captain, a position he held for over a decade. He scored in excess of 7500 runs for Victoria and captured 6 Sheffield Shield titles, 3 as Captain.
Cameron played for Australia in all 3 formats and Captained the T20 team for the 2011 season. He played a number of seasons in the IPL and is currently in the midst of his first season as coach of the Renegades which has begun positively.
Cameron first came to Dandenong from the Wy Yung club in Bairnsdale as a fourteen year old to join our Dowling team. Mum and Dad shared the driving on the 3 hour journey one way with an occasional train trip as well. Cam played a handful of games in the threes and then twos before promotion to the ones. The following season he announced himself to the wider community with 6 for 6 from 6 overs incl a hattrick and a century in a partnership of over 200 with Tim Hooper.
At age 20 he took over the Captaincy of the Club from Warren Ayres on the urging of CV.
It was obvious for those at Club that he was ready and eager for it to happen. Cameron moved on to Richmond after 6 seasons with the opportunity to work closely with Jim Higgs and to be more closely located to home.
We are proud of Cameron for what he has achieved and the part we played.
